Day 22: Incubator – Conversion Factors
The preparedness of the speaker for this video lesson shines through. By the way, it really is still Day 22. This is my second review for the day as I am trying to catch up to my classmates on StomperNet Incubator.
Going back, the instructor Dave Taylor, gave a good first impression. He spent some time summarizing what Sherman Hu discussed yesterday. I really liked this. It gives me a good feeling of continuity to the lessons. And since I consider yesterday a well presented lesson, this feeling of continuity makes me look forward to hearing what Dave Taylor has to add for Conversion.
First off, Dave also made the same connection of Sherman’s Form and Function to Architecture. I made the same connection too and posted about it on the review for the previous lesson. Nothing like another person agreeing or supporting what you said to make you want to listen more to what he has to say.
He then highlights what is most important in getting high Conversion rates. TRUST! Everything he will discuss on this 25-minute video lesson will revolve around gaining the TRUST of your visitor.
He lists down 10 specific ways to convey TRUST and then proceeds to expound on each and give examples. Again, the same effective, visual way Sherman did to show what he means is used by Dave. He gives sample websites. While I cannot list those 10 down for you without violating some terms and conditions when I enrolled into StomperNet, I can tell you that they are very practical must haves. You will also see that some commercial websites out there do some of the 10 tips. But I can’t recall one having all of them. Not counting Dave Taylor’s websites of course. The idea is if you do all of them effectively, you have a leg up on your competition on the all important goal of gaining their trust.
Dave’s last few tips focused on asking. Asking your users what will help in reassuring them you can be trusted and to keep asking yourself what you would need to see in order to trust something in the fast changing world of the Internet.
